A vehicle’s Advanced Driver Assist Systems rely on cameras, radars, and lasers that must be precisely aligned in order to function correctly. The vehicle’s computer does not automatically adjust these systems on its own. Recalibration is the process that guides the computer and ensures all safety systems are operating as designed.

When a windshield is replaced, the forward facing camera is removed from its mounting bracket and disconnected from the vehicle. Once the new windshield is installed, the camera is reattached. At that point, the vehicle must be recalibrated to restore proper alignment and ensure the ADAS features function correctly.

If recalibration is not completed, the vehicle will need to be taken to a dealership for this service, which can be costly. Even in cases where a camera has not been unplugged, recalibration is still required to confirm proper operation, reduce potential liability, and allow the vehicle to pass final safety checks.

If a customer chooses not to have recalibration performed, we will advise that ADAS features may not function properly without it and strongly encourage having the service completed either by us or by the dealership for the safety of the driver and others on the road. In these situations, we may ask the customer to sign an acknowledgment stating they understand the risks associated with declining recalibration.

This can cause the vehicle to brake, accelerate, or steer unexpectedly, creating a serious safety concern.
